Methodology

How we publish

This page is the hub note for all seven publications. It explains the shared rules. The ingest for a given series — table names, API identifiers, licences — lives on the product, not here. If a product page and this page ever disagree on a series detail, the product methodology is the one to use.

Republication, not original statistics

Younivi does not conduct surveys, compile national accounts, set a policy rate, or declare a public holiday. We read files and APIs that the producing agency has already released under a licence that allows reuse, then write static HTML: a headline figure, a chart, a table, and a citation. That is what “official data republished” means on this site.

We do not change a published value to make a chart look smoother. We do not fill a gap with an interpolation. We do not splice two agencies into one homemade history for the same economy, except where a product methodology already documents a labelled exception (for example IMF WEO used only when World Bank Open Data does not publish Taiwan). If a source file cannot be downloaded, that series or economy is omitted.

Static rebuilds and delayed figures

The product hosts are not live databases. A rebuild script reads the latest official files on disk (or freshly downloaded into that folder), computes a handful of summary statistics, and writes pages. The public site therefore lags the producer by whatever time sits between their release and our next rebuild. Daily interest-rate files can move on most business days; CPI and house-price indexes follow monthly or quarterly calendars; GDP and ILO modelled labour series are typically annual.

Official institutions also revise. A later rebuild can change a past printed value because the source changed, not because Younivi restated it. Range buttons on charts only filter what is drawn; they do not recompute the official history.

What we do compute

Some pages show a change versus the previous observation, a mean or median of the history we ingested, or a year-over-year percentage derived from a published index. Those derived figures are Younivi’s arithmetic on the official levels. They are not a substitute for the producer’s own percentage-change series unless the product says the producer’s series is the one on the page. House Price labels year-over-year change as derived. Price Index cites agencies for unmodified official observations, not for homemade inflation-adjustment tools.

Corrections and updates

If a figure disagrees with its source, we check the producer’s file, correct the ingest or build, and regenerate the pages. Source revisions flow through on the next rebuild; we do not edit a published value silently. Younivi is independent and takes no advertising from the agencies it cites. Corrections go to [email protected].

Not financial advice

Data is republished for information only. This is not financial advice and is not a recommendation to borrow, save, invest, or take any other action. New Zealand law governs the product disclaimers. Company context is on About.
